Dear Parents/Guardians,
This letter is to inform you of the upcoming activities for the second marking period in your child’s English class. Along with a unit on poetry scattered throughout the marking period, students will be working on a required research paper. This paper will be done in a step by step process, and each stage of the paper will have a different due date in either the second or third marking period. Each step of the paper, from research to the final copy, will be modeled during class and will have some class time allotted to its completion. This letter is to make you aware that your child should be working on his or her paper at home along with the time that we will be spending in class. At your child’s disposal are handouts, which explain how to complete each stage of the paper. These handouts should be in your child’s English notebook in the notes section and also on my Eboard for you to view. Your child has already been given a copy of the requirements, due dates, and the grading format of the paper so that there are no surprises and there is ample time to complete each stage of the paper. Some possible suggestions of how you could assist your child in completing a successful research paper include: purchasing note cards for the paper, discussing ideas for your child’s topic, offering to take your child to a community library to look for research, checking due dates for the various stage of the paper, looking on the parent portal to see if assignments were handed in the their grade earned, and offering to read the rough draft for another opinion, etc. Keep the top portion of this letter so that you have a record of due dates and how much each stage of the paper is worth. Due dates can also be found on my Eboard. Please sign and return the bottom portion of the letter so that I know that you are aware of this upcoming assignment. Feel free to write any other suggestions, questions, or comments concerning the research paper on the bottom portion of this letter. Thank you for taking time to read and sign this letter. Your child will receive homework credit for returning this signed bottom portion of the letter on time tomorrow. Thank you, Adam Preim |
